Hofburg Palace (Schloss Hofburg)

Formerly the home of the Habsburg monarchy, this massive royal complex is hard to miss. It includes Imperial Apartments (Kaiserappartements), Imperial Treasury (Schatzkamme), Sisi Museum, Royal Chapel (Burgkapelle), the famed Spanish Riding School, expansive gardens, and more. The complex is surrounded by the Ring Road (Ringstrasse), an infamous route showcasing some of Vienna’s most impressive sites.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom)

Recognizable for its colorful tiled roof, this cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is at the heart of the city. It is the final resting place of Emperor Frederick III and many other notable Austrians. It also offers some of the best views in Vienna from the 137m tall South Tower.
